CAPS United midfielder Archford Gutu desperately wants to play on Sunday
He told H-Metro Sport after their training session at Barclays Sports Club on Wednesday that he is keen to make it in the first team ahead of the Harare derby.
The former Dynamos player decided against joining his former club after a three-year stint with Kalmar FF in Sweden early this year.
He missed training for a week following a brush with the law, that saw him being charged with malicious damage to property at the magistrates’ court.
The case was postponed to May 4 but Gutu says he is focused:
“I want to focus. I don’t want to continue talking about that incident. I don’t want to be reminded about it. It’s a case before the courts and I will face it when the day comes .For now, I want to be in the team. I want to be at my best before the day.
“I want to play, I can’t wait. Hapana asingadi kutamba derby. I missed four or five days of training and I am trying hard to keep up in shape.
I have been doing extra training on my own, just to keep up with everyone. I am fit but I feel i should do more. I am really working hard because I want to make it into the team.”
Gutu featured in a number of Harare derbies but in Dynamos colours and he has a goal under his belt.
He is well aware of the importance of the derby to fans having played four since joining Dynamos.
“When you lose a derby, it is very frustrating. But we have a chance to show how good we are doing in the Premier League so far.
“Derbies are always special games. I have had the opportunity to play a lot of them and I know it is a special game to fans.
“I scored once in the Harare derby. I featured in three or four of them. I have lost count but I have one goal against CAPS United. It’s funny.
“It’s a game that I have been looking forward to. Derbies are exciting, not only to fans but players as well. I can’t wait for it and I am keen to play on Sunday,” added Gutu. H Metro
