A TWO-month pregnant woman was busy at work when her lover stormed in and demanded to speak to her outside. She refused but he raised his voice and began to cause a scene.
She then decided to go outside and hear him out, not knowing he had planned to cut her stomach open.
Customers and staff members at the bakery in Riet River, Verulam, north of Durban were shaken after finding Lungi Mathumba (25) lying in a pool of blood with her stomach slit open on Thursday evening.
Reaction Unit South Africa spokesman, Prem Balram said: “When we got there we found the heavily bleeding woman lying in the bakery’s staircase. Her abdomen was slit and her intestines were hanging out. She was also bleeding from a stab wound on her arm and mouth. She was stabilised and rushed to hospital,” said Balram.
He said the woman was still in a critical condition in hospital and was not sure if the baby had survived the attack.
Major Thulani Zwane said a case of attempted murder was opened at Verulam Police Station. No arrest has been made.
