Mathias Mhere under fire over new controversial song

GOSPEL music lovers have expressed dismay over Mathias Mhere’s song Makorokoza muChurch off his fifth album Double Double which they have described as a mockery to christianity. This follows comments posted on Mhere’s Facebook Page by his followers who condemned the song classifying it as secular song with no Godly message.

Speaking to H-Metro over the matter,Mhere said the song was meant to preach to fellow Christians on commitment to God.

“I have seen messages that you are talking about but it is unfortunate that people are interpreting my message that way.

“What I was simply advising fellow Christians is for them to desist from the habit of portraying Christianity as a gamble whereby they serve God for them to get something in return.

“The Bible clearly states that we should seek the Kingdom of God first and then everything will be added unto us but that is not what is happening in most churches nowadays.

“The problem we are having is that people are after benefiting we get from being a Christians and they are no longer seeking him wholeheartedly.

“It seems as if modern delivers are desperate for God when they are facing hard times and when God blesses them, they turn their back on him and this was the issue I was addressing in the song.

“Those people who passed messaged on my Facebook page misunderstood the message that is on the song, others might have understood the message but because they do not want to turn away from their wicked ways they would then attack me on social media and that is bad,”said Mhere.

The youthful musician went on to liken himself to Prophet Amos who received resistance whilst addressing pertinent issues that were happening in Israel during his time.

“When you start addressing real issues you will be hated by many, this is exactly what was happening during the time of Prophet Amos,he spoke blatantly on how the system was corrupt and his message made him a victim of persecution.

Even our master Jesus Christ,at one time he entered the temple and had a near fist fight with people who were conducting corrupt activities in the church.

“In as much as I might want human support,I don’t have to change my message to buy people’s support and approval,I will stick to the word of God.

“God has made me to be who I am today and I will not change the message that he has sent me with,”he said.
He added that the matter was of concern to him because some church leaders are also fuelling corrupt tendencies in churches.

“Makorokoza tinawo muchurch yanhasi,we have them from all levels, from the church leaders to congregants and I feel things should change.

“It should be the duty of church leaders to educate people that they should shun from evil ways but what is shameful is that some church leaders are actually the ones preaching false doctrine leading people astray.

“The song is actually my favourite song on the album Double Double,I will not stop performing it even at live shows just because there are people who are interpreting the message wrongly,”he said.

Meanwhile,Mhere page was awash with messages from people who were attacking him.

Below are some of the messages:

“You have always had a problem with how you interpret scriptures my brother,I think after composing your songs you need to consult people who have knowledge on the scriptures.

“Gospel music is not just about entertaining people with a nice beat, gospel music is supposed to have a message and that is what is lacking in your music,”

“Iwewe ndiwe mukorokoza mukuru,”

“You are bringing Christianity into disrepute, this is the worst song you have done in your musical career”

“Why can’t you sing about the love and the faithfulness of God,shallow minds focus on shallow things”
