Mtukudzi, Zhakata meet in Mutare

Oliver Mtukudzi and Leonard Zhakata will tomorrow share the stage at The Platinum in Mutare. The two musicians are top performers in the country and their relationship dates back to the early years of their careers.

They both plied their yesteryear trade in the high-density suburb of Highfield that brought birth to popular artistes through venues like Mushandirapamwe Hotel and Saratoga. The Mutare show is set to bring the stars on one stage after a long time. Mtukudzi’s manager Sam Mataure said they have never disappointed whenever they stage a show.

“We gave our apology following the failure of the superstar top perform at the venue last month. It was beyond our control, but now our fans should just look forward to a good performance,” he said.

He said they had something new to offer to their fans.

“We will perform all the old and some new stuff at the show and we promise one of our best gigs,” he said.

On the other hand, a lot is expected from Zhakata who is in the studio working on a new album that will be released in June.

Zhakata has managed to keep his fan base pleased with his sterling performances. His camp has also promised to usher some of the new songs at the show.

“We have new songs that we will be sampling. With the album coming next month we have to give our fans a test of the new product at our shows,” he said.

Show organiser Esau Mupfumi said they have decided to have Zhakata at the show because of the request by patrons.

“We wanted to have Mtukudzi only for the show but our patrons requested that we bring Zhakata here. He has performed at the venue several times and always gives his best,” he said.

He said they have done their ground work for the show
