Namibian girls who were assaulted for dating married men saga takes surprise twist

A TECHNICALITY saved three “no nonsense” Bulawayo women who beat up college girls they suspected were dating a man married to one of them.

The trio of Mbalenhle Mitchell Magama,Tapiwa Chiwundo and Kholwani Baloyi, all aged 24,faced kidnap, assault and distributing po_rnograpic material charges when they appeared in court last month.

Accusations against the three were that they allegedly ordered one of the girls Nancy Kaambo (20) undress before assaulting her. The trio recorded the assault.Their crime came to light after the video went viral. The trio was saved from the humiliation of a trial when Kaambo withdrew the charges before Bulawayo regional court magistrate Trynos Wutawashe.

She said she was now “over the matter” and wanted to move on with her life after recovering from the “nightmare.”

Allegations against the trio arose on 24 March when Magama discovered that Kaambo,a form Four pupil at Speciss College was friends with her husband’s girlfriend.

It was alleged that Magama, with the two co-accused persons, then hatched a plan to assault Kaambo and her friend Vehamisa Tjiramba(20). It was alleged that the trio invited Kaambo and Tjiramba to a local complex under the pretext of selling Avon products to them. According to court records ,the two were told the products were somewhere in town. They got into Magama’s vehicle who drove them to a secluded place in Famona suburb.

It was yet to be proven that when they got there ,the three women accused Kaambo of flirting with Magama’s husband and they took turns to assault her.

“They ordered her to undress and went on to assault her while she was stark naked.Afterwards, the three women drove to assaulting Kaambo while one of them recorded the act with a cellphone,”reads part of the court records.

In the recording the women can be heard saying the assault was punishment for Kaambo’s decision to bed a man who is married to one of them.
