Close to 1200 villagers in Hurungwe’s Birimahwe area are set to enjoy access to running water courtesy of a project being implemented in ward 11.
The project is being implemented by the Hurungwe Rural District Council under the Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Programme and involves community participation.
11 villages, Birimahwe school and a shopping centre will benefit from the project.
Trenching of a 1,3 km pipeline and borehole drilling has already been done.
Hurungwe Rural District Council Engineer, Mr Chengetai Muchakacha, said a solar powered pumping unit is going to be installed at the source of the water.
Materials, including water reservoirs, have already been procured and awaiting delivery in Hurungwe.
The project’s success has been attributed to the community’s contribution through labour.
Tape water points will be put on designated sites where the villagers will draw the resource.
