ZIMRA hands over confiscated goods to Grace

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) is reportedly handing over goods confiscated from smugglers to First Lady Grace Mugabe, who reportedly doles them out to Zanu PF supporters.

Industry and Commerce deputy minister Chiratidzo Mabuwa made the disclosure in Gweru recently, after Bata Shoe Company managing director, Ahm Ehsanuzzaman complained that cheap imports were driving them out of business. “We have increased surveillance to confiscate and donate these low-cost products. Some of these shoes have been donated by the First Lady,” she said.

Grace-MugabeDue to the harsh economic environment, informal traders have resorted to smuggling second hand clothes and
footwear for resale to raise money to sustain their families.

Last August, Grace told supporters in Zvimba that most of the stuff she donated during her rallies throughout the country were seized by Zimra from illegal vendors
