2015 June Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Ordinary Level results are out. Zimsec director Mr Esau Nhandara said in a statement that the results have been dispatched to regional offices.
He urged school heads to collect the results from Zimsec regional offices starting today. Mr Nhandara said according to Zimsec statistics, the number of candidates who sat for the June 2015, examinations had decreased by more than 20 percent compared to last year.
A total of 81 083 candidates registered and sat for a range of subjects from one to 10 subjects per candidate.
The number of candidates decreased by 20 338, a decrease of 20,09 percent compared to the June 2014 number.
Last year 101 471 sat for the June O’Level exams.
“The private candidates are those who are not registered in the formal school education system, but sit for examinations.
“The school candidates attend classes until the sitting of the examinations. A total of 71 642 private candidates and 9 441 school candidates sat for the examinations.”
Mr Nhandara said the June examinations were meant to provide an opportunity to candidates who need to supplement subjects and complete a full certificate with five subjects or more at Grade C or better.
“The number of candidates who sat for five or more subjects are 2 760 which is 3,4 percent of the total candidature of 81 083,” he said.
“The remainder 78 323 which is 96,6 percent sat for four or fewer subjects.
“Our statistics also show that school candidates performed better than private candidates. The school candidates recorded a 45,28 percent pass rate compared to 29,41 percent last year, while private candidates recorded 8,53 percent compared to 8,58 percent last year.”
