Akatambwa Harare – THE 2015 Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Competition winners Makarekare have lost the $4 000 prize money they won after group leader Munyaradzi Horita was conned a few minutes after withdrawing the money from the bank last week.
Munyaradzi confirmed the developments saying some people he suspected to be conmen had probably stolen from him after he had given them directions to Copacabana bus rank.
“It happened last Friday. I had just come out of ZB Bank First Street around midday and met some guys who asked me for directions. I think that is where I lost it. I realised that I had lost all the money I had in the bag. I was in possession of $3 954, including my personal $5 note,” he said.
“I reported the case to Central Police Station under the number RB080384. Investigations are underway. I can say the group understood and accepted my explanation.”
The Goromonzi-based Jerusarema/Mbende ensemble came tops in the 52nd edition of the dance competition held in Bulawayo last month after shrugging off stiff competition from nine other traditional dance groups.
