Thousands of opposition supporters in Zimbabwe have marched through the capital Harare to deliver a petition to the electoral commission.
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and its alliance partners are angry over the quality of the voters roll and want to be allowed to witness the printing of ballot papers for this month’s election.
This is the second mass demonstration held against the electoral commission in the space of a month.
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa and other top officials handed over a petition with a series of demands.
Commission chairperson Priscilla Chigumba wasn’t there to receive the petition, but a meeting between her and leaders of the opposition alliance has now been set for Thursday.
Public trust in the commission is at an all-time low, and top opposition official Tendai Biti told the marchers that full disclosure on the printing, storage and distribution of ballot papers is something he and others are prepared to die for.
